James Bullough
James Bullough, an American-born artist, lives and works in Berlin. His studio paintings and large-scale murals deftly fuse realistic portraiture with powerful graphic abstraction. Influenced by gritty urban graffiti in Washington, D.C., he combines its energy and sharpness with traditional techniques of realistic oil painting. His work is characterized by captivating contrasts and juxtapositions, whether on massive facades with spray paint or in his studio with oil paints. Bullough moves skillfully between realistic portraiture and stylized distortion, weaving tradition and modernity. His studio work can be seen in galleries, museums and art fairs worldwide, and his sought-after murals adorn landmarks in New Zealand, Sweden, France, Germany, Ukraine and the USA.
